Lyne Park Playground

Fenced | Partial Shade | Water Fountain | Toilets

Recommended

Address 9 Vickery Ave, Rose Bay NSW 2029

With the playground refresh in August 2024, this park now punches above its weight. Situated just metres from the harbour, the park is fully fenced allowing you to enjoy the sunshine and views without worrying about one of your kids deciding to go for a swim.

The play equipment is reasonably distributed between stuff that toddlers, younger kids and older kids will enjoy.

There’s a double flying fox, water play area, drum and standing xylophone, several nature play areas, a bank of six swings (including two bucket swings and two accessible swings), a rodeo spring toy game (for two kids, or even a kid and an adult), see-saw, and a toddler area with a pirate ship and slide, sand pit and another bucket swing.

There’s a fair amount of seating inside the park, with a mix of natural shade and shade cloths giving coverage to about half of the play equipment.

There are public toilets (open during daylight hours) within walking distance, across the park from the playground. There is also a public carpark, with more toilets available for customers in the Sugar & Spoon cafe next to the carpark.

The playground is next to the Rose Bay Sea Plane Terminal, and there are plenty of boats moored nearby. Great watching for any little boat and plane enthusiasts.

Parsley Bay Reserve Playground

Partial Shade | Toilets | Water Fountain

Recommended

Address Horler Avenue, Vaucluse NSW 2030

Note: a new pump station is being constructed at Parsley Bay Reserve between mid 2024 and 2026. There is no vehicle access or carpark available during this time.

The Park

This playground is nestled in the Parsley Bay Reserve directly behind Parsley Bay Beach. The playground includes regular and pod swings, an inclusive merry-go-round, jungle and climbing gyms for both younger and older kids, spring toys and several slides.

There is a large grassy field next to the playground, leading to Parsley Bay Beach. There are plenty of picnic tables around, in both the playground area and around the edges of the field - perfect for a family picnic (although see the parking section below!). There is a public toilet (also with two showers) a short walk from the playground.

If you’re after a coffee, the Parsley Bay Kiosk is next to the playground, and is open every day from 9am until early afternoon (although we’re not sure about public holidays or over Christmas/New Years).

If you’re visiting with younger kids, one downside is that the playground is unfenced. While the beach is about 100m from the playground, there is a creek bed at the back of the playground (the swings end) which drops down about a metre.

However, all things considered, the combination of the playground, the gorgeous surrounds, the cafe, toilets, plenty of grass and the nearby beach begging for some sandcastle-making, this became one of our favourite playgrounds to visit in the Eastern Suburbs.

Construction Works

Sydney Water is constructing a new pump station at the park to divert untreated wastewater away from Vaucluse. This means that there will be a construction site next to the playground until at least late 2026.

The site is fenced off, although there was a stray sandbag and a large, stray barrier board on the edge of the playground when we visited one Saturday in September.

We’re not sure whether construction works are being carried out every day, or how much noise is generated.

Although if you have little digger and construction enthusiasts, having some machinery or building work to watch may be a bonus!

Access and Parking

Due to the construction works in the reserve, the car park has been closed.

This does make it a bit inconvenient to visit. If you’re visiting with a group or planning a family picnic, try to carpool as much as possible.

We recommend trying to find a park on the residential Parsley Road, then walking down Horler Avenue - which is the only entrance to the park with pram access.

You will have to either go around the side of the gate, or lift over the top if you’re feeling like some more strength training (or, more realistically perhaps, if you have another adult with you). Single prams shouldn’t have a problem fitting around the gate, but wider prams may have issues.

There is also pedestrian, but not accessible/pram friendly access next to 14 The Crescent, Vaucluse NSW 2030, second track at 14B The Crescent, and via the walking track next to 43A Fitzwilliam Rd, Vaucluse NSW 2030.
